As of a few years ago, with the growing popularity of reality shows and social media, the idea of being a “Bad Bitch,” has exploded all over the internet. It is predominant theme in songs, videos, or even social media posts. Amber Rose even wrote a book about it. I haven’t read the book, but I do remember Amber advocating using your sex appeal to get money from men as a part of the thing that makes one a bad bitch. There seems to be a huge push for young women who want to be internet famous, or have the glamorous trappings of these women who’ve used their looks and body to get ahead. It can be very alluring, but should you strive for that?
And thiWhen you go on social media platforms like Instagram, there will always be that girl who is always dressed to the nines or whose makeup is on fleek. She sometimes posts some very provocative pictures with her body as the main character. Her hair is always on point. There is never an explanation as to where the money comes from, but eventually you find out why she has this glam life. Some of these women are strippers, or have worked in the sex industry in some form. Some might be in the beauty industry. And yet others can depend on their famous or rich partner to provide them with this life they showcase on their social media. But without knowing these things about these women, there are always little girls worshiping their favorite IG star and hoping to become one of them when they get old enough.
I hate to say it, but even women old enough to know better dream of being like Blac Chyna, or Amber Rose. Thier lives look so amazing and fun. However, most of us will never be like these women, and that’s okay. I would rather not have to be a stripper in order to meet a rapper and become a celebrity, or even an internet star. I wouldn’t post pictures of my body, even if it looked like some of these women's. What I won’t do is bash these women for making the best of their celebrity and channeling that into businesses or money making opportunities. Good for them for making it past their early lives and into a more stable and sometimes even more noble professions.
But while I don’t care to sit around and bash these women, I don’t advocate for being the next whoever. Find your own path. Create your own lane. You might become a stripper and never find your white knight to help rescue you. There seems to only be one Kim Kardashian while hundreds of sex tapes are made every year. Blac Chyna and a few others were mentioned in Drake songs, but she was the only one who emerged as a bonafide celeb. And think about all the IG famous girls who will never get a reality show on BET like India Love has.
Wishing to be these women might take you away from the amazing path that God has laid out for you. School might be hard, but it’s something that no one can take from you. Your degree doesn’t guarantee you a job, but it will get your foot in the door and then it’s up to you to make the best of it.
So do you want to be a bad bitch??? You can still be that and be smart about your future. Wear all the makeup you want. Get your hair fixed in all the latest styles. Wear the nicest clothing you can afford without breaking the bank. But, don’t focus so much on the material or the glam life because not everyone will emerge as popular or famous, and that’s okay.
